We have not been able to take a multi day trip wiht the Miata for a while, In the fall of 2025 we took a few days down the Skyline Drive in Virgina, then the Blueridge Parkway for about 30 miles and then across to Lynchburg. Our intent was to go to the Appomattox National Park. The US government was out due to Congress not passing a budget so we waited as long as we could for fear the fall colors would be to far gone and it may be too cold for a top-down day if we waited much longer.
The trip was a celebration or our retirements in October, The good news is that we will have much more time for trips in the Miata,
We started early in the morning to be at the entrance to Skyline Drive when it opened. We got there shortly after opening and the foliage did not disappoint.

We stayed in Lynchburg and traveled to Appomattox the next day. It was a short 30 min drive. We Visited the Appomattox National Park and was able to walk around the park but nothing was open to go inside or any Park Rangers to give tours and talks due to the government shut down.
During the trip we also went to Thomas Jeffersons second home at Popular Forest. We was not aware that this existed until we saw some roadside signs for it and then started looking it up on the internet, It was well worth the stop. We got to the tour the house and grounds. Got a good bit of history of the site and of Jefferson from the tour guide.

We ate dinner at the Depot Grille in Lynchburg. It is located in the old train depot. The food and atmosphere was great. Highly recommend it if you need a good place to eat.
It was a short trip of only 2 days. We took a more direct route home including interstates, which we try to avoid if possible, but it ended up being cold and rainy on the trip home.
